Situated just 10 miles west of downtown Chicago, North Riverside Park Mall first opened in 1975 as a super-regional center. Currently anchored by JCPenney, Round One, and a 6-plex movie theater, this two-level, enclosed mall features 140 retail shops with an estimated 15 million annual shoppers and visitors. Due to COVID-19 pandemic restrictions in 2020, the mall was temporarily closed which gave our client, Joe’s Boots, an opportunity to regroup and strategize for the long-waited store expansion. Our team at Yu & Associates Collocative was tasked to absorb the recently vacant adjacent tenant space as we conceptualize a comprehensive design that elevates the aesthetic of the entire store.
First opened in 2018, Joe’s Boots offers an extensive selection of authentic western boots, hats, belts, and clothing for everyone in the family. They are passionate about providing complete customer satisfaction with quality products and exceptional services. Our team worked closely with the client and his team as we identified key elements from the original mission statement and develop a design concept that focuses on offering a unique authentic in-store experience. The simple, but clean and contemporary exterior enclosure extends as we took over the adjacent storefront. The new light color palette presents a slick, refreshing look that complements the large sheets of transparent, glossy glass and silver metallic base. The wall geometry followed the existing ceiling soffit with variations in angels, ingeniously illustrated playfulness within a rigid, modular mall setting. A warm, rustic interior harmoniously contrasts with the new shiny exterior, finding a perfect balance between authentic western and modern cityscape – a unique physical, sensational experience as visitors enter through the store.
